Great experience. First time hiking in the winter wilderness of Finland - but Mikko was both knowledgeable and entertaining. Also he was super prepared with extra gear and things on the trail. Hence we had a great time. Cannot recommend him enough.

I recently had the pleasure of embarking on a fully customized hiking experience at Nuuksio National Park with Finnish Friend, guided by the incredible Mikko. It was, without a doubt, one of the best outdoor experiences I’ve ever had! While researching guided hikes, Finnish Friend stood out for offering a completely tailored experience at an unbeatable price. Their service included doorstep pickup, full hiking gear (from head to toe), and even a delicious campfire lunch — all of which were seamlessly organized. From the start, Mikko impressed us with his professionalism and attention to detail. He reached out to discuss our preferences, the desired duration of our hike, and any dietary needs. A few days before the hike, Mikko even checked in to confirm our plans, given the possibility of rain. This thoughtful gesture, combined with the fact that payment was only required after the hike, reassured us of his commitment to quality. Our gear wasn’t suitable for winter hiking, but Mikko had us covered. His van was equipped with an impressive range of well-maintained hiking gear in various sizes. It’s clear he puts great care into ensuring his equipment is in top condition. Even his van was impeccably neat and organized — a small detail, but one that speaks volumes about his professionalism. The hike itself was magical. We opted for a 10km route lasting 7-8 hours, including a relaxing campfire lunch break. Mikko set a comfortable pace, perfect for our fitness levels, and shared fascinating insights about the forest, from berry and mushroom foraging to Finnish hiking traditions. A highlight for me, as someone from the tropics, was sawing and chopping firewood for the campfire. Lighting a fire in the middle of a winter forest was an experience I’ll never forget! With winter’s short daylight hours, we also had the unique opportunity to hike in the dark using headlamps — an exhilarating end to an already extraordinary day. Mikko’s warmth, expertise, and dedication made this experience unforgettable. If I return to Helsinki, I’d love to hike with him again, especially during autumn to see the vibrant foliage. Whether you’re a beginner or seasoned hiker, I can’t recommend Mikko and Finnish Friend enough for a truly personalized and enriching outdoor adventure!
